Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) were the main destinations of carob exports from Morocco, together accounting for 97% of total exports. Turkey lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 2.8%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Turkey (with a CAGR of +54.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for carob exported from Morocco were Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Switzerland ($X), with a combined 96% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkey, which accounted for a further 3.2%.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Algeria (+38.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Morocco
Carob imports into Morocco reduced to X tons in 2021, falling by -2.4% against the year before. In general, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 6,583% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In value terms, carob imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 3,611%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Algeria (X tons) constituted the largest carob supplier to Morocco, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, carob imports from Algeria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), sevenfold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Algeria totaled +81.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Portugal (+58.0% per year) and Spain (+31.2% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X), Algeria ($X) and Lebanon ($X) appeared to be the largest carob suppliers to Morocco, together comprising 76% of total imports.
Algeria, with a CAGR of +94.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average carob import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 235% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed measured growth. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+42.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
