Carob Market Size in Morocco

Carob Production in Morocco

Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) were the main destinations of carob exports from Morocco, together accounting for 97% of total exports. Turkey lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 2.8%.

Carob imports into Morocco reduced to X tons in 2021, falling by -2.4% against the year before. In general, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 6,583% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In value terms, carob imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 3,611%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Algeria (X tons) constituted the largest carob supplier to Morocco, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, carob imports from Algeria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), sevenfold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8% share.
