In 2021, the Moroccan electronic chip market decreased by -25.3% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a deep downturn. Electronic chip consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electronic chip exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. In value terms, China ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Singapore ($X) constituted the largest markets for electronic chip exported from Morocco worldwide, with a combined 55% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, the United States, Germany, Mexico, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese) and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Among the main countries of destination, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +23.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average electronic chip export price amounted to less than $X per unit, falling by -23.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Thailand (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (-13.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Electronic chip imports into Morocco soared to X units in 2021, surging by 62% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
