Fructose Market Size in Morocco

The Moroccan fructose market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, with an increase of 36% against the previous year. In 2021, shipments abroad of fructose and fructose syrup decreased by -14.3% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 590%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fructose exports fell slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 401% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Tunisia (X tons) was the main destination for fructose exports from Morocco, with a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, fructose exports to Tunisia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Libya (X tons), with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Tunisia stood at -6.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+56.8% per year) and Libya (-36.6% per year).

In value terms, Tunisia ($X), Senegal ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for fructose exported from Morocco worldwide, together comprising 78% of total exports. These countries were followed by Libya and France, which together accounted for a further 22%.

France, with a CAGR of +122.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fructose export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 112% against the previous year. In value terms, fructose imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +99.4% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of fructose imports to Morocco, together accounting for 82% of total imports. Slovakia, Belgium and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +44.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
