Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic furniture exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 350% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Senegal (X units), Mauritania (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units) were the main destinations of plastic furniture exports from Morocco, with a combined 45% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Cabo Verde, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Ghana, France and Spain, which together accounted for a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +180.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of furniture of plastic decreased by -6.8% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic furniture imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +40.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Turkey (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of plastic furniture imports to Morocco, together accounting for 83% of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, Portugal, Algeria and France, which together accounted for a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +51.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic furniture suppliers to Morocco were China ($X), Turkey ($X) and Italy ($X), together accounting for 76% of total imports. Spain, France, Portugal and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Portugal, with a CAGR of +45.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
