Green Peas Market Size in Morocco

In 2022, the Moroccan green peas market was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a perceptible descent. In 2022, the average yield of peas (green) in Morocco amounted to X tons per ha, increasing by 4.8% on 2021 figures. Overall, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, green peas exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 2,940%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

France (X tons) was the main destination for green peas exports from Morocco, with a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, green peas exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France amounted to +8.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+24.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+58.9% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for peas (green) exports from Morocco, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 17% share.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of peas (green), when their volume decreased by 99.9% to X kg. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 425% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.
