After two years of growth, shipments abroad of plums and sloes decreased by -50.6% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 2,011%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, plum and sloe exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 1,176%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Mauritania (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Mali (X tons) were the main destinations of plum and sloe exports from Morocco, with a combined 72% share of total exports. Burkina Faso, the United Arab Emirates, Niger, the UK, Qatar and Cote d'Ivoire lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +53.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for plum and sloe exported from Morocco were Mauritania ($X), Senegal ($X) and Qatar ($X), with a combined 58% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Mali, the UK, Burkina Faso, Niger and Cote d'Ivoire lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
Mali, with a CAGR of +76.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plum and sloe export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 144% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+23.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Morocco
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of plums and sloes, when their volume increased by 105% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild slump. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plum and sloe imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons) was the main plum and sloe supplier to Morocco, with a 123% share of total imports. Moreover, plum and sloe imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Africa (X tons), with a 20% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain stood at +11.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+82.0% per year) and South Africa (-10.2% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plums and sloes to Morocco, comprising 134% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 55% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 52% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain stood at +16.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (0.0% per year) and Italy (+94.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plum and sloe import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -18.5% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
