In 2021, overseas shipments of self-adhesive paper and paperboard were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 893% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, self-adhesive paper exports rose slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 414% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X kg), Mauritania (X kg) and Tunisia (X kg) were the main destinations of self-adhesive paper exports from Morocco, with a combined 80% share of total exports. Madagascar and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +105.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the key foreign market for self-adhesive paper and paperboard exports from Morocco, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Mauritania, with a 10% share.

For the tenth consecutive year, Morocco recorded growth in supplies from abroad of self-adhesive paper and paperboard, which increased by 10% to X tons in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +95.5% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 16%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +89.7% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 20%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of self-adhesive paper imports to Morocco, with a combined 80% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Luxembourg, Turkey, the Netherlands, Poland and Germany, which together accounted for a further 16%.
