After four years of growth, the Moroccan sheepskin and lambskin market decreased by -1.1% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, saw a drastic downturn. For the fourth year in a row, Morocco recorded decline in shipments abroad of sheep or lamb skins (without wool), which decreased by -50.6% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports saw a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 1,773%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin exports dropped notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a dramatic decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 674% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X tons) was the main destination for sheepskin and lambskin exports from Morocco, accounting for a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, sheepskin and lambskin exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X kg), twofold.

Sheepskin and lambskin imports into Morocco expanded sharply to X tons in 2021, rising by 15% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 183% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, France (X tons) constituted the largest sheepskin and lambskin supplier to Morocco, with a 43% share of total imports.
