The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 105% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Senegal (X tons) was the main destination for soap in different forms exports from Morocco, with a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, soap in different forms exports to Senegal exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 7.2% share.

In value terms, Senegal ($X), Equatorial Guinea ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for soap in different forms exported from Morocco worldwide, together comprising 71% of total exports. Guinea-Bissau, the United Arab Emirates, France, Kuwait and Mauritania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of soap in different forms decreased by -7.6% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, soap in different forms imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +73.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 21%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of soap in different forms to Morocco, accounting for a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, soap in different forms imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, soap in different forms import price increased by +38.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
