From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+22.8%).

Imports into Morocco
In 2021, supplies from abroad of sugars, sugar ethers and salts increased by 5% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugars imports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of sugars imports to Morocco, together accounting for 44% of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark, France, Italy and the UK, which together accounted for a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of -1.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest sugars suppliers to Morocco were Germany ($X), Austria ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 33% of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark, France, Italy and the UK, which together accounted for a further 17%.
Among the main suppliers, France, with a CAGR of +6.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the average sugars import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -17.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
