Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 176%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, truck and bus tyre exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a dramatic decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 285%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mauritania (X units) was the main destination for truck and bus tyre exports from Morocco, with a 95% share of total exports. Moreover, truck and bus tyre exports to Mauritania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Africa (X units), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Mauritania totaled -26.2%.

In value terms, Mauritania ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for tyres for buses or lorries exports from Morocco, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 0.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Mauritania amounted to -25.3%.

Export Prices by Country

The average truck and bus tyre export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 7.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 237%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritania ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to South Africa totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of tyres for buses or lorries increased by 8.2% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +98.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 54%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Turkey (X units), China (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main suppliers of truck and bus tyre imports to Morocco, together comprising 44% of total imports. Spain, Poland, Egypt, Romania, Japan, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Italy and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 49%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +22.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average truck and bus tyre import price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -21.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Slovakia ($X per unit) and Romania ($X per unit), while the price for France ($X per unit) and the Czech Republic ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (-1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
