For the fifth consecutive year, Morocco recorded decline in shipments abroad of vegetable products, which decreased by -53.9% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 5,374%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vegetable product exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 4,113% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Spain (X tons) was the main destination for vegetable product exports from Morocco, with a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, vegetable product exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Switzerland (X tons), with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Spain totaled +83.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+18.1% per year) and Switzerland (-14.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for vegetable product exported from Morocco were Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and Switzerland ($X), together comprising 98% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Spain, with a CAGR of +167.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average vegetable product export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 45% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 145% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Morocco
In 2022, supplies from abroad of vegetable products increased by 136% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 1,022%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 647%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Libya (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable product to Morocco, with a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable product imports from Libya exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Algeria (X tons), twofold. Lebanon (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From 2013 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Libya was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Algeria (+47.8% per year) and Lebanon (+571.4% per year).
In value terms, Lebanon ($X), Cyprus ($X) and Spain ($X) were the largest vegetable product suppliers to Morocco, together accounting for 66% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Lebanon, with a CAGR of +368.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average vegetable product import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable increase from 2013 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vegetable product import price increased by +58.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 52%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cyprus ($X per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cyprus (+41.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
