Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, walnut exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 480% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for walnut exports from Morocco, accounting for a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, walnut exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X kg), more than tenfold. Luxembourg (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany amounted to +30.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-34.1% per year) and Luxembourg (+25.7% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for walnut exports from Morocco, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Luxembourg ($X), with a 2.7% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 1.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany stood at +30.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Luxembourg (+12.0% per year) and France (-39.3% per year).

In 2021, the average walnut export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -8.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 256% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Chile (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of walnut imports to Morocco, together comprising 97% of total imports.
