In value terms, exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted moderate growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X cubic meters), Germany (X cubic meters) and Qatar (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Morocco, with a combined 40% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +108.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates exported from Morocco were Germany ($X), Qatar ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 48% share of total exports. In 2021, purchases abroad of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates was finally on the rise to reach X cubic meters after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 122%. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Portugal (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Morocco, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X cubic meters), ninefold. Germany (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal totaled +21.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-24.8% per year) and Germany (+3.8% per year).
In value terms, Portugal ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates suppliers to Morocco, together comprising 51% of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, Turkey, China and Egypt, which together accounted for a further 8.7%.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +44.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average import price for wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates amounted to $X per cubic meter, declining by -25.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 106% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
