Exports by Country
Qatar (X cubic meters) was the main destination for exports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Morocco, accounting for a 31% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X cubic meters), twofold. France (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Qatar stood at +51.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+32.2% per year) and France (-6.8% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates exported from Morocco were Germany ($X), Qatar ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 54% of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Saudi Arabia and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 7.1%.
The UK, with a CAGR of +60.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Morocco
In 2021, purchases abroad of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates increased by 114% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 168% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 143% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Portugal (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Morocco, accounting for a 31% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X cubic meters), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X cubic meters), with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal totaled +69.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+132.3% per year) and Germany (+40.2% per year).
In value terms, Portugal ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the largest wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates suppliers to Morocco, together accounting for 33% of total imports. China, Spain and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.9%.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +71.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, waning by -22.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 16%. The import price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Portugal ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
