Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for cored arc-welding wire exports from Myanmar, accounting for a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, cored arc-welding wire exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Singapore amounted to -23.1%.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for cored arc-welding wire exports from Myanmar, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of cored arc-welding wire decreased by -59.3% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 200%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, cored arc-welding wire imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed moderate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 160%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Thailand (X tons), China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of cored arc-welding wire imports to Myanmar, with a combined 83% share of total imports. Australia, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +57.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
