As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, cinnamon exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 524% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

China (X tons) was the main destination for cinnamon exports from Myanmar, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, cinnamon exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Thailand (X tons), ninefold.

From 2014 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China amounted to +76.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+0.3% per year) and Pakistan (+45.8% per year).

Over the period under review, imports showed a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 513%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cinnamon imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a sharp curtailment.
