In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 200% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Thailand (X tons) was the main coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre supplier to Myanmar, accounting for a 94% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Thailand amounted to +41.0%.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Myanmar, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 6.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Thailand totaled +24.6%.

The average import price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 5.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 58%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
