China (X tons) was the main destination for dog and cat food exports from Myanmar, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia (X kg), with a 2.8% share of total exports.

In value terms, China ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for dog and cat food exports from Myanmar, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 2.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China amounted to +17.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-23.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-26.7% per year).

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of dog and cat food, when their volume decreased by -13.2% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 379%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dog and cat food imports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 379%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X tons) constituted the largest dog and cat food supplier to Myanmar, with a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, dog and cat food imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Thailand stood at +38.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-5.7% per year) and Belgium (+64.7% per year).
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dog and cat food to Myanmar, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Singapore totaled +91.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+16.5% per year) and Belgium (+43.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average dog and cat food import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dog and cat food import price decreased by -18.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
