Malaysia (X tons), China (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of dried or salted fish exports from Myanmar, with a combined 75% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Bangladesh and Qatar, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Dried Or Salted Fish
Imports into Myanmar
For the third year in a row, Myanmar recorded growth in purchases abroad of dried or salted fish, which increased by 32% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 132%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, dried or salted fish imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 94% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Mexico (X tons), India (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of dried or salted fish imports to Myanmar, with a combined 92% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +557.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dried or salted fish to Myanmar, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 16% share.
