In 2021, the Myanmar's imines market decreased by -32.1% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. Imines consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof decreased by -32.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 369%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In value terms, imines imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 192% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main supplier of imines to Myanmar, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by India (X kg), with a 2.3% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X kg), with a 0.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +28.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+4.7% per year) and Thailand (-12.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof to Myanmar, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 0.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +13.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+18.5% per year) and Thailand (-19.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average imines import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 92%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+138.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
