Lead Market Size in Myanmar

The Myanmar's lead market shrank to $X in 2022, which is down by -7.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 1,705% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Indonesia (X tons), India (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of lead exports from Myanmar, with a combined 76% share of total exports. Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

From 2015 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of +102.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average lead export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2015 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to South Korea ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) and Indonesia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Myanmar

In 2022, supplies from abroad of lead increased by 580% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate a moderate increase. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lead imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a prominent increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Singapore (X tons) was the main supplier of lead to Myanmar, with a approx. 99.9% share of total imports.
