The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 321% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main destinations of cows skin exports from Myanmar, together comprising 91% of total exports. Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.3%.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of raw hides and skins of bovine animals decreased by -89.9% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after eight years of growth. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 5,782% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cows skin imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 1,430% against the previous year.
