India (X tons), China (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports from Nepal, with a combined 83% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Australia, which accounted for a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Australia (with a CAGR of +31.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Nepal

In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery to Nepal, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Bangladesh (X tons), with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from India amounted to -7.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-13.3% per year) and Bangladesh (-8.1% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery to Nepal, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from India amounted to -7.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-7.9% per year) and Vietnam (+36.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
