Common Clay Market Size in Nepal

The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, common clay exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 54% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

India (X tons) was the main destination for common clay exports from Nepal, accounting for a approx. 99.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India totaled +75.1%.
In value terms, India ($X) also remains the key foreign market for common clay exports from Nepal.

Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average common clay export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -19% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 1,005% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

Imports into Nepal
In 2022, the amount of common clay imported into Nepal dropped slightly to X tons, which is down by -4.6% on 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 70%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, common clay imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +199.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 135% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) was the main common clay supplier to Nepal, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, common clay imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+81.7% per year) and Indonesia (-10.4% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of common clay to Nepal, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 6.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from India stood at +4.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+69.2% per year) and Indonesia (-13.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average common clay import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 73% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
