The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 238%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crude palm oil imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 249%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest crude palm oil supplier to Nepal, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, crude palm oil imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), fivefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Indonesia totaled +13.4%.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crude palm oil to Nepal, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia totaled +12.3%.

Import Prices by Country

The average crude palm oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia totaled $X per ton.
