In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 130% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk increased by 9.6% to X litres, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports stood at $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
India (X litres) was the main destination for non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports from Nepal, accounting for a 99.9% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States (X litres), with less than 0.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India totaled +2.2%.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk exports from Nepal, comprising 99.9% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with less than 0.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to India totaled +1.4%.
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk stood at $X per litre in 2022, growing by 3.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to India totaled $X per litre.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+9.0%).
Imports of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Not Containing Milk
Imports into Nepal
In 2022, purchases abroad of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk increased by 19% to X litres, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 106%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 131%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Thailand (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk to Nepal, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X litres), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Thailand totaled -8.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-7.6% per year) and Malaysia (-3.8% per year).
In value terms, Thailand ($X), India ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the largest non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk suppliers to Nepal, together comprising 99% of total imports.
India, with a CAGR of +6.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk stood at $X per litre in 2022, reducing by -3.9% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk import price decreased by -4.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per litre), while the price for Malaysia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
