In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to India was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Pakistan (+43.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+15.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average nutmeg, mace and cardamom export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Nepal
Nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports into Nepal declined notably to X tons in 2022, which is down by -31.9% against the previous year. In general, imports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 219%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports declined notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 267% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Guatemala (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of nutmeg, mace and cardamom to Nepal, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports from Guatemala exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), twofold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Guatemala amounted to -13.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+10.8% per year) and Indonesia (+32.2% per year).
In value terms, Guatemala ($X) constituted the largest supplier of nutmeg, mace and cardamoms to Nepal, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Guatemala was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+28.3% per year) and Singapore (-6.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average nutmeg, mace and cardamom import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 66%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
