Playing Cards Market Size in Nepal

The Nepalese playing cards market shrank to $X in 2022, reducing by -11.2% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, recorded a resilient increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports from Nepal

In 2022, the amount of playing cards exported from Nepal shrank remarkably to X kg, declining by -19.4% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 638% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X kg. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, playing cards exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 1,208% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X kg) was the main destination for playing cards exports from Nepal, with a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, playing cards exports to the Czech Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (X kg), fivefold. Denmark (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Czech Republic amounted to +33.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (+8.0% per year) and Denmark (+11.6% per year).

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the key foreign market for playing cards exports from Nepal, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Switzerland ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the Czech Republic amounted to +37.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (-1.1% per year) and Canada (-3.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average playing cards export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -22.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 115% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+1,100.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Playing Cards Imports

Imports into Nepal

In 2022, imports of playing cards into Nepal fell to X tons, with a decrease of -6.4% on 2021 figures. In general, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -16.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, playing cards imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 62%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of playing cards to Nepal, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, playing cards imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), tenfold. Malaysia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+16.7% per year) and Malaysia (+0.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of playing cards to Nepal, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 7.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +8.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+22.7% per year) and the United States (+7.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average playing cards import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, playing cards import price increased by +21.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 47% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
