Television Receiver Market Size in Nepal

The Nepalese television receiver market was estimated at $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In 2022, after four years of decline, there was growth in overseas purchases of television receivers, when their volume increased by 3.3% to X units. Overall, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, television receiver imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +11.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest television receiver supplier to Nepal, accounting for a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, television receiver imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X units), fourfold. Vietnam (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +9.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+22.4% per year) and Vietnam (+64.7% per year).

In value terms, the largest television receiver suppliers to Nepal were China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and India ($X), together comprising 69% of total imports. Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong SAR and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

Switzerland, with a CAGR of +51.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average television receiver import price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
