From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, aromatic alcohols exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight downturn. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of aromatic alcohols exports from the Netherlands, together comprising 48% of total exports. The UK, Japan, France, Spain, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Norway, Mexico and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +199.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for aromatic alcohols exported from the Netherlands were Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 45% of total exports. These countries were followed by Japan, the UK, France, Spain, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Norway, China and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 44%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Mexico, with a CAGR of +152.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aromatic alcohols export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Netherlands
For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in purchases abroad of aromatic alcohols and their derivatives, which increased by 5.3% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 231%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aromatic alcohols imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +47.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), India (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of aromatic alcohols imports to the Netherlands, with a combined 92% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +56.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of aromatic alcohols and their derivatives to the Netherlands, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +6.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+36.7% per year) and Germany (+1.9% per year).

The average aromatic alcohols import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 177%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
