Bottled Water Market Size in the Netherlands

The Dutch bottled water market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, growing by 22% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a slight decrease. Bottled water consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In value terms, bottled water exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 99.9% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of bottled water exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 82% share of total exports. France, Spain and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.3%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +46.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price recorded a notable expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Bottled water imports into the Netherlands surged to X tons in 2022, rising by 19% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a mild slump. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bottled water imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, France (X tons) constituted the largest bottled water supplier to the Netherlands, accounting for a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, bottled water imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from France totaled +54.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+0.3% per year) and Belgium (-19.9% per year).

In value terms, the largest bottled water suppliers to the Netherlands were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 85% of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, the UK and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 5.5%.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 35%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
