Canned Pineapple Market Size in the Netherlands
The Dutch canned pineapple market soared to $X in 2022, picking up by 26% against the previous year. For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded decline in overseas shipments of canned pineapples, which decreased by -13.5% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 23%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, canned pineapple exports plummeted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
France (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of canned pineapple exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 48% share of total exports. Poland, Romania, Finland, Italy, the UK, Hungary, Austria, Sweden, Ireland and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +15.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for canned pineapple exported from the Netherlands were France ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 49% of total exports. Romania, Poland, Finland, Italy, Sweden, the UK, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +16.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average canned pineapple export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -11.3% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, canned pineapple export price increased by +54.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 43% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands
In 2022, the amount of canned pineapples imported into the Netherlands reduced modestly to X tons, waning by -2.5% against the year before. Overall, imports showed a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, canned pineapple imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest canned pineapple supplier to the Netherlands, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, canned pineapple imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Philippines (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X tons), with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia amounted to +1.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+11.6% per year) and Thailand (-12.0% per year).
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of canned pineapples to the Netherlands, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Indonesia stood at +3.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-7.5% per year) and the Philippines (+15.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average canned pineapple import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 37%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
