Other Cereals Market Size in the Netherlands
For the third consecutive year, the Dutch other cereals market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 28% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Other Cereals Production in the Netherlands
In value terms, other cereals production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 185%. Other cereals production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The average yield of other cerealses in the Netherlands expanded rapidly to X tons per ha in 2021, growing by 13% compared with 2020. Overall, the yield, however, saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 22%. The other cereals yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The other cereals harvested area in the Netherlands expanded modestly to X ha in 2021, with an increase of 1.8% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, the total harvested area indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, other cereals harvested area decreased by -1.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 65%. Exports from the Netherlands
Other cereals exports from the Netherlands declined to X tons in 2021, which is down by -8.1% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 215% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, other cereals exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 218%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X tons) was the main destination for other cereals exports from the Netherlands, with a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, other cereals exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belgium totaled +23.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-1.3% per year) and France (+8.5% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for other cereals exported from the Netherlands were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 60% of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Spain, Austria, the UK and Poland, which together accounted for a further 21%.
Austria, with a CAGR of +31.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average other cereals export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -19.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 53%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+12.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Other Cereals Imports
Imports into the Netherlands
For the third consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in overseas purchases of other cerealses, which increased by 24% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 251% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, other cereals imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 262% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of other cereals to the Netherlands, with a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, other cereals imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X tons), with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +3.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+11.5% per year) and France (-7.1% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of other cereals to the Netherlands, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +2.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+27.0% per year) and Poland (+10.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average other cereals import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
