From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Spain (X tons), France (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of chromates exports from the Netherlands, together comprising 61% of total exports. Romania, Germany, Serbia, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Bulgaria and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Finland (with a CAGR of +120.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average chromates export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands

Chromates imports into the Netherlands expanded sharply to X tons in 2022, surging by 5.2% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 548% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chromates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 496% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chromates to the Netherlands, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, chromates imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Africa amounted to +6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-5.0% per year) and the United States (+56.4% per year).

From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
