Italy (X tons) was the main destination for cotton lint exports from the Netherlands, accounting for a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, cotton lint exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkey (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy totaled +118.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-10.7% per year) and Germany (+14.2% per year).
In value terms, Italy ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for cotton lint exports from the Netherlands, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovakia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Italy stood at +113.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+101.4% per year) and Germany (+22.3% per year).

The average cotton lint export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -16.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 180%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+18.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands
In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of cotton lint, when their volume increased by 75% to X tons. In general, imports, however, showed a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 480%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cotton lint imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 540%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Turkey (X tons), India (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main suppliers of cotton lint imports to the Netherlands, with a combined 97% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +106.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cotton lint suppliers to the Netherlands were Turkey ($X), India ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 93% share of total imports.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
