Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 34%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, meat and fish extracts exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 89%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
France (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) were the main destinations of meat and fish extracts exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 61% share of total exports. Slovakia, the UK, Spain, Germany and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +203.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Switzerland ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for meat and fish extracts exported from the Netherlands worldwide, together accounting for 62% of total exports. Germany, Spain, the United States, Slovakia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
Slovakia, with a CAGR of +209.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average meat and fish extracts export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 68%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+19.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Extracts And Juices Of Meat, Fish, Crustaceans And Molluscs
Imports into the Netherlands
In 2021, approx. X tons of extracts and juices of meat, fish, crustaceans and molluscs were imported into the Netherlands; shrinking by -37.9% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 48%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, meat and fish extracts imports reduced notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 76%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest meat and fish extracts supplier to the Netherlands, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, meat and fish extracts imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Korea (X tons), with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Brazil amounted to +21.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+5.4% per year) and South Korea (+70.2% per year).
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of extracts and juices of meat, fish, crustaceans and molluscs to the Netherlands, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 4.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Brazil stood at +24.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+8.6% per year) and Denmark (-7.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average meat and fish extracts import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -17.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 94% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
