Groundnuts Market Size in the Netherlands
The Dutch groundnuts market declined notably to $X in 2022, waning by -42.5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, groundnuts exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 244% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
France (X tons) was the main destination for groundnuts exports from the Netherlands, accounting for a 32% share of total exports. Moreover, groundnuts exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Estonia (X tons), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to France stood at +30.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-8.0% per year) and Estonia (+75.1% per year).
In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for groundnuts exported from the Netherlands worldwide, together comprising 62% of total exports. Belgium, Estonia, Romania, Poland, Hungary and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
Estonia, with a CAGR of +71.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average groundnuts export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 21% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands
In 2022, the amount of ground-nut (in-shell) imported into the Netherlands fell significantly to X tons, reducing by -31.5% on 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 65%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, groundnuts imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) were the main suppliers of groundnuts imports to the Netherlands, with a combined 52% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +84.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest groundnuts suppliers to the Netherlands were China ($X), Egypt ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. Uzbekistan, Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.
Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +87.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average groundnuts import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
