The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 231%. Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main destinations of aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 58% share of total exports. The UK, India, Japan, Belgium, France, Spain and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +137.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports into the Netherlands surged to X tons in 2021, increasing by 82% on 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 648%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 210% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives to the Netherlands, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 3.9% share.
