The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, public works machinery exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The UK (X units), Germany (X units) and France (X units) were the main destinations of public works machinery exports from the Netherlands, together comprising 45% of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Spain, Austria, Egypt, Ukraine, Italy, the United States, Poland, Switzerland and Russia, which together accounted for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +45.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Egypt ($X per unit) and Ukraine ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per unit) and France ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of machinery for public works and building were finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, public works machinery imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) constituted the largest public works machinery supplier to the Netherlands, with a 28% share of total imports. Moreover, public works machinery imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X units), twofold. Sweden (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +10.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+30.4% per year) and Sweden (+71.8% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of machinery for public works and building to the Netherlands, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled +4.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+24.2% per year) and Sweden (+71.6% per year).

In 2021, the average public works machinery import price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 9% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($X per unit) and Italy ($X per unit), while the price for France ($X per unit) and Norway ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
