The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 174% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Germany (X units), France (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main destinations of men swimwear exports from the Netherlands, together comprising 62% of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Spain, Poland, Austria, Greece and the UK, which together accounted for a further 26%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +71.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, men swimwear export price decreased by -30.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of men’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) into the Netherlands surged to X units, jumping by 17% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 119%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, men swimwear imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 102%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

China (X units), Bangladesh (X units) and Sri Lanka (X units) were the main suppliers of men swimwear imports to the Netherlands, together comprising 55% of total imports. Germany, the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +54.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
