Molasse Market Size in the Netherlands

In 2022, the Dutch molasse market increased by 8.2% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, purchases abroad of molasses was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, molasse imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

India (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of molasse imports to the Netherlands, together comprising 82% of total imports. Guatemala, Belgium, Norway, the UK, France, the United States, Egypt, Pakistan and Nicaragua lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 26%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+17.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
