Germany (X tons) was the main destination for nutmeg, mace and cardamom exports from the Netherlands, accounting for a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, nutmeg, mace and cardamom exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with an 8.4% share.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for nutmeg, mace and cardamoms exports from the Netherlands, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany stood at +1.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (-2.3% per year) and France (+0.1% per year).

The average nutmeg, mace and cardamom export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -12.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Netherlands
In 2022, supplies from abroad of nutmeg, mace and cardamoms decreased by -23.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Indonesia (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main suppliers of nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports to the Netherlands, with a combined 77% share of total imports. The UK, Belgium, Grenada and Madagascar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Madagascar (with a CAGR of +409.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Guatemala ($X) and Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest nutmeg, mace and cardamom suppliers to the Netherlands, with a combined 75% share of total imports. The UK, Belgium, Grenada and Madagascar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
Madagascar, with a CAGR of +488.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average nutmeg, mace and cardamom import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -9.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Grenada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
