For the third consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded decline in overseas purchases of o-acetylsalicylic acid, its salts and esters, which decreased by -14.4% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 72%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, o-acetylsalicylic acid imports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of o-acetylsalicylic acid to the Netherlands, with a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, o-acetylsalicylic acid imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold.
