The Dutch optical fiber and bundle market dropped remarkably to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -33.4% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Romania (X tons) was the main destination for optical fiber and bundle exports from the Netherlands, with a 28% share of total exports. Moreover, optical fiber and bundle exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tons), threefold. Sweden (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Romania stood at +116.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+24.5% per year) and Sweden (+9.9% per year).

In value terms, Romania ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for optical fibers and bundles exports from the Netherlands, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Romania stood at +101.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-2.4% per year) and France (+21.5% per year).

The average optical fiber and bundle export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 8.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After five years of growth, supplies from abroad of optical fibers and bundles decreased by -43.9% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, optical fiber and bundle imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +13.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 49%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest optical fiber and bundle supplier to the Netherlands, accounting for a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber and bundle imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+19.7% per year) and the United States (-11.8% per year).

Japan, with a CAGR of +38.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average optical fiber and bundle import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 36% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, optical fiber and bundle import price increased by +79.0% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
