In 2022, overseas shipments of ploughs for agricultural purposes decreased by -39% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 348% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, plough exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The United States (X units), the UK (X units) and France (X units) were the main destinations of plough exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 73% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +129.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for plough exported from the Netherlands were the United States ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 47% share of total exports.

In 2022, overseas purchases of ploughs for agricultural purposes decreased by -64.6% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 329%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plough imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 74%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, Austria (X units) constituted the largest supplier of plough to the Netherlands, with a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, plough imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X units), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Austria totaled +26.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-8.3% per year) and France (+17.0% per year).
