In value terms, polycarbonate exports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Germany (X tons), China (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of polycarbonate exports from the Netherlands, together comprising 38% of total exports. Spain, France, Austria, Poland, Belgium, India, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Germany ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) and Austria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2022, polycarbonate imports into the Netherlands contracted to X tons, which is down by -2.9% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, polycarbonate imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 40%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of polycarbonate imports to the Netherlands, together accounting for 71% of total imports. The United States, Japan, Italy and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +142.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and the United States ($X) constituted the largest polycarbonate suppliers to the Netherlands, together accounting for 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Japan, Italy and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further 21%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+19.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
