The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), India (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of polyurethanes exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 41% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, China, the United States, Bangladesh, the UK, France, Turkey, Belgium, Singapore and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 41%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +77.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +36.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, polyurethanes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polyurethanes to the Netherlands, with a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, polyurethanes imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the UK (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+7.5% per year) and the UK (+10.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average polyurethanes import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
