In value terms, cattle hide and skin exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Italy (X tons), China (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of cattle hide and skin exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 86% share of total exports. Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +75.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for raw hides and skins of cattle exports from the Netherlands, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Italy amounted to -5.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-6.9% per year) and Germany (+0.3% per year).

The average cattle hide and skin export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 19% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 27%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Netherlands
After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of raw hides and skins of cattle increased by 26% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cattle hide and skin imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main suppliers of cattle hide and skin imports to the Netherlands, together comprising 87% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +65.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the largest cattle hide and skin suppliers to the Netherlands, with a combined 85% share of total imports.
