The Dutch skis market surged to $X in 2021, increasing by 18% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a deep setback. Skis consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, skis exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 122% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

France (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main destinations of skis exports from the Netherlands, together accounting for 52% of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, Italy, Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Spain, Denmark, Switzerland, Finland and Iceland, which together accounted for a further 36%.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iceland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of skis for winter sports, when their volume decreased by -29.3% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 140% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell significantly in the following year.
